NHL09 freezes on opening screen

I installed the game without any problem and tried to run it. It goes to the first blue screen with the EA logo and NHL09 on it, but freezes there with large black pixel lines (or pixelly blurs, really) running horizontally through part of the screen (different parts each time). The only way to close it is to bring up task manager and end the nonresponsive program. I checked that I meet the system requirements. I have:

Windows XP (Professional SP2)
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
510MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (driver version up to date - 1/12/2010), 256MB
DirectX 9.0c

... I got my brother to try installing it on his computer and it runs fine, so I know there's no problem with the installation (and I also tried reinstalling it on my computer).

Any ideas on how to get it running?

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I turned VSync on, but there was no difference when I tried to run the game.

I did just notice that when it runs successfully on my brother's computer, it first shows a while EA Games screen, then possibly another screen after that before getting to the screen I'm talking about (and then has additional words down the bottom). Mine is just black until it gets to the blue frozen screen, and the extra words aren't there (just the EA logo and NHL 09, and the black stuff).

But anyway, thanks and I'll have a look there.
