Rosters only partially load
Hey, I've been trying to get the roster update (BvH Roster for NHL08 Version 20) to work on NHL 08. I've followed all steps as they were laid out in the readme.txt, etc.
Quote:
How to install it:
1. Copy db.viv to C:\Program Files\EA Sports\NHL08\db XP
or C: \My Documents\NHL08\db Vista
2. copy exhibition.exh and exhibition.exha.tdb to My Documents\NHL08
3. copy BHImport08.bat to C:\Program Files\EA Sports\NHL08 XP
or Vista 32 BHImport.bat to C: \My Documents\NHL08 Vista
4. run BHImport08.bat or Vista 32 BHImport.bat
|
When I open NHL 08 and look at the 'edit lines' menu, it showed that players and lines were still completely the same. Using NHL View, I had messed a bit with the exhibition file, and THOSE changes (lowering attributes slightly for players who tanked, raising some players who'd blossomed) were in effect. In addition, when looking at the liens for the Dallas Stars, I noticed that Mathias Norstrom and Eric Lindros now are named "Mathias Norstrom-retired" and "Eric Lindros-retired"...so some things are updated, but lines and rosters are not. New players that needed to exist are nowhere to be found.
I have tried repeating the roster update about 4 times and nothing seems to change. I also tried the suggestion to use NHL view to synchronize, and I think all that did was the aforementioned small changes. Anyone know what might be the problem and how it might be fixed?
Thanks!

are you on Vista?
If, yes, turn off UAC and restart your PC then reinstall the rosters
make sure you do this step
2. copy exhibition.exh and exhibition.exha.tdb to My Documents\NHL08

I'm on XP, though is there a chance I'd need to turn off UAC anyway?
When I open the SAME exhibition file straight from the roster download, the rosters appear as they should in NHL View. No matter how many times I copy the exhibition files into My Documents\NHL08 however, both NHL View and the game continue to say the exhibition file located in that folder contains rosters awkward in the way I mentioned above.

I see a db.viv in the main game folder
post a pic of the file locations that you want loaded up in NHL View

Sure thing...deleted the extra file you noticed.
Ok, so there's the location of the roster update files.
I copy those exact files into the folders specified, and complete the process also as specified in the readme...
So far it seems it goes alright.
To confirm the update was successful, I go ahead and open the 'new' files in NHL View.
The roster update does nothing to fix the old/messed up rosters as they were before. (example team is the Dallas Stars - notice "Mathias Norstrom - retired")

Reason: images and text blended in with one another - confusing and annoying

let me get this straight, you uncompressed the files from the download to your desktop, then you copied them files to the correct folders and then ran BHImport?
you did not edit the roster in NHL View while it is on the desktop?
just so you know, you don't have to blackout your username

I uncompressed them to my desktop after the first failure so I'd have the original files. I also tried it straight from the download with similar results. I put the files into the correct folders, ran BHImport, which read that all updates had been successful, and upon opening the files from their new location, I found the original, goofy roster situation remained.
I have edited the rosters with NHL View but I have also done it without any editing at all, and I continue to get the same result. Any change I manually make to a player's attributes is recognized by the game, however roster changes, new players, etc. are unrecognized, and retired players remain in the game with the suffix, as seen. I have tried it a few times without any editing, straight from the download, with the same result that only certain kinds of changes make it into the game.

I'm only blocking it out because it's my real, full name.

delete the roster files in the folders and then reinstall the rosters and see what happens

That doesn't want to work either, sadly. It resets the majority of the new characters to 'hidden' or simply makes them disappear. End result is the same.

I logged on to my computer today to see one last time if I could get it to work before pasting all those images, and now it just crashes when I try to open the game. Maybe this is some kind of progress.
