Antivirus Protection?

Well, I was just curious what everyone uses for anti virus protection and why they use it. I am just trying to decide whether or not I should stick with Norton's 2007 or switch it up next time around.

AVG Free Adition.

The reason why I use it is pretty much a given.

The last time I had a virus it cleaned it, when Norton didn't.

Yea Mcafee was a total useless protective anti-virus program. No wonder it was free with rebates... It stunk too.

NOD32 antivirus (doesn't eat system resources like Norton) and Kerio personal firewall.

as funny as this statement is, it is very true. I've seen it first hand at FS when I worked there. Sad thing is for the mass public that dont know dick about computers, this is the result. And its not just stores, even people from the paper who fix PC's in there home do this as well.

moral of the story is educate yourself or be taken like a moron.

oh and I use Norton 07, Id like to know more about the one that dont use resources though, cause Norton is a pig.

Dont use any ad programs, if you ask me they are all spyware, then again, big Bill probably put spyware into xp and vista anyway.

Um, no, that should be quoted for complete inaccuracy. There are TONS of free spyware programs that are efficient and virus-free. HiJack This, for example, is a great free utility. In fact I'd probably rate it #1 in terms of effectiveness. User-friendliness on the other hand, is a totally seperate issue. I wil admit it's not a tool for the average user. Either way, to say all or even most free spyware programs are spyware or viruses themselves is completely false.

As for me, I don't really use any virus or spyware protection, but as you can see, if I were to get a malcious program, I'd recommend HiJack This to remove it. For viruses, I have a copy of McAfee Enterprise Edition version 8. It was used (may still be in use) by the USF campus in Tampa.

yeah its decent but doesn't catch everything. Bazooka was a pretty good one but YOU have to remove the files. Sure it tells you where to go but still.

Well you have to remove the files manually yourself with HiJack This too...so what? How lazy can you be? There's also hijackthis.de which allows you to upload a log file of the report or paste it in yourself and it will analyze your results for you and tell you which is safe, harmful, or unknown.

i use the exact same combo. i recomend both, for the same reason, compared to norton it doesn't use the computer's resources at all and they work.
