Since there seem to be something wrong with my post about Kovalchuk showing up in the US team, I get the message "Database Error" when I try to open it, I will post a new post with a description of the problem and the development, just in case someone else has encountered it.
It all started last Saturday when I was updating the national teams in NHL 08 using nhlview. All of a sudden, Russian Star Kovalchuk shows up in the ingame team roster for the US (not dressed) and when I try to access the player, the game crashes. But when I open nhlview, everything seems to be normal.
I had some backups and installed an older roster but the problem was there too! Obviously it was an old problem which I hadn't noticed until now.
However, I did find roster which was older than the previous one, installed that one and no Kovalchuk. So I spent some hours, re-editing some teams and there he is again, Kovalchuk in the US team!
I tried to make a change in the US roster=game crashes. Then I run BHImport, starts the game, try to switch some players in the US team (but not Kovalchuk) and this time it works. I play a game with the US team and it works.
I do some more changes with nhlview, starts the game again. This time Kovalchuk has dissapeared and been replaced by an empty space with one single letter whuch looks like an "Y".
I go back to nhlview to do some more changes. Previously I have discovered that when I start a new tournament and tries to access the rosters in that tournament, there's an error message for the player Doug Weight which says "attributes for the player isn't correct". I suspect that this may have something to do with the Kovalchuk problem and removes Doug Weight from the US team.
Then I start the game again and discovers that Kovalchuk has been replaced by another Russian player in the US team!
When I open nhlview, the error message is there for another US player.
So I transfer Doug Weight back to the US team, starts the game, deletes the tournament I had started and then I check the US team and yes, dear, old Kovalchuk is back in the roster.
But I can still play with the US team without any problem.
So I start a new tournament and choose the US team as "my team". Now Kovalchuk is gone and replaced in the roster by someone called "I.Yerts"!
However, I start the tournament and no problem playing with the US team. I do actually win the tournament too, beating Russia (of all teams) in the final. During the tournament, when I access the US team to make some changes, I discover that "I.Yerts" is gone.
But dear, old Kovalchuk is still in the original team roster (the one for friendship games).
However, I decide to start a new tournament, this time with the Czech team as my team. This time I can't access the US team but I can check the player statistics and no problem there. No problem to play against the US team either and neither Kovalchuk nor any other stranger, including the mysterious "I.Yerts" shows up in the US team during the tournament. Kovalchuk is there he should be, in the Russian team (he actually scores against my team in a game).
So obviously the "Kovalchuk problem" doesn't affect the game as such as long as I avoid to dress him if I play with the US team and he shows up in the team roster.
But isn't this very strange?
Is there anyone else who have encountered a similar problem in NHL 08 after editing some players?
