NHL 06 vs. NHL 07
I played NHL 06 a lot and loved it. There were many minor misstakes, but nothing I couldnt live with. Now I stopped playing it in May 2006. When NHL 07 was released, I tried it a couple of times and found it very similar to NHL 06, but I think I played it to few times to get an honest opinion.
So my question to u is.. now when I want to start play again.. what game should I choose?

IMO 06. I have 07 and I didn't like it. Minor changes to the controls and a few other things didn't catch my fancy.

07
We should advance each year to the recent game and try to make it better.
At beginning 06 was crappy, with tweak it was a good game
At begining 07 was weird but with better goalies than 06 and now it's a pretty good game. Way much ways to score.

It wasn't crappy!
2005 was crappy! 06 was good in a lot of areas and 07 had some issues.

Both 06 and 07 didnt look good without addons or tweaks, but with them they are both great.

I think 07 is waayyyyy better than 06. I think the biggest thing is they made it easier to play the puck around the corners and off the boards. The AI also uses the boards and the corners, making the game a little more realistic.

2004 is the best game of them all. 06 & 07 are really the same game with minor tweaks made to 06 and repackaged. Yes with addons and AI enhancements both are good games, but 04 stock trumps em both.

BUT!
NHL 2004 - you'll see defence men hanging around the opponant's net while the forwards are standing by the blue line (every player out of position). NHL 05/06/07 not the case - every player in the correct place. NHL 06 and 07 - when the CPU is on the PENALTY KILL - they clear the puck, as per real life, instead of playing like normal, and trying to score shorthanded every time.
NHL 06 - you can stand behind your net - opponant CPU will wait for a few seconds in front of your goalie. NHL 07 not as much, but sometimes. NHL 2004, forget it, doesn't happen.]
When you're on the powerplay:
NHL 07 - the CPU opponant will clear the puck down the ice, as per real life
NHL 06 - same
NHL 2004 - the CPU will try their hardest to get a short handed goal - not realistic
In normal 5 on 5:
NHL 07 - a lot of times - CPU opponant will DUMP AND CHASE - like real life
NHL 06 - (from memory) same as above, not as much
NHL 2004 - NEVER - will always unrealistically carry the puck in the zone
One-timers:
NHL 07/06 - with all the tweaks - realistic effectiveness
NHL 2004 - money goal
NHL 2005/ 06/ 07 - better graphics.
2 cents :D

Indeed, but the checking and passing system is way more realistic than 05/06/07

I haven't played 07 yet, but 04 is not as good as 06 because of the goal factor. Even on the most difficult level I had no problem scoring 20+ goals in a game. In 06 it is much harder to score. I think it is because of the improved player fatigue. The only thing I don't like about 06 is the hitting. I use a keyboard and do not know if it is different with a controller or joystick. But the only way you can knock down a player is if you come at them straight on, you can't hit someone from the side into the boards, they just kinda slow down, or you bounce off them.

I think it's a disgrace whnen people have to say things like:
"NHL07 and 06 sucks graphically, but after some mods..."
When you buy the game the game should look finished. not crappy!! Don't tell me they can't pay a team which creates (graphical or roster) updates from time to time? I believe that NHL04 and 05 still got some regular roster updates, 06 and 07 2 a year, at the best.
Shame on you EA.
Whay can't TBN not release it's own NHL game? The only thing we miss are programmers, the rest we have (graphics dudes and such...)
Anyway, NHL2004 ruled, 05 sucked bigtime (I skipped it completely, utter crap) 06 and 07 were better.
But one thing I hope, that they'll rewrite the cutscenes and change the offplay graphics and scenes. It's getting annoying we have to face the same cutscenes for 3 releases now...

The license from the NHLPA and NHL and the other pro leagues more than likely forbid that so that they get more money.
It is not just EA, it is other sports game makers including 2k Sports

Money, the NHL, NHLPA, brand makers, mask makers and all that would want money for the use of their product. Also time. It takes months and months creating a game.

Sure, I know you can't create a game overnight.
It was just some "wild" thoughts blowing inside the large emptiness between my ears
I just wonder now. How can those licenses forbid you to bring out updates? You already pay to have Crosby's face in the game, if suddenly they fix his cyber, why would that be a in violation of the license agreement?
The same with updating goalie gear...

06 is better than 07 just because there was a version of TCE for it.

you can use TCE for 06 in 07. thats how i got my game playing so much better. i play 10 minute periods and in a low shooting game, valiquette made 17 saves on 18 shots. the only problem i have no is that i score 3-6 goals per game while the CPU only scores 1-3.

Actually, all addons including rosters and graphical are illegal. The EA, NHL, NHLPA and the equipment makers and designers can sue any addon makers if they wanted too as it violates copyright rules. Editing the game in anyway is actually against the TOS. Will they sue, unless an addon maker charges for the addon than they would sue that addon maker otherwise, they won't sue.
NHL and NHLPA might have in their license with EA and 2K that the rosters can't be updated past a certain point in the year.
Regarding faces and photos, I don't know why a Crosby or a player that is in the NHLPA does not have one.

This is different. The equipment makers including goalie mask makers must be asked and paid for using their stuff. EA and 2k does not have the license to use specific player equipment, they can't use it.

I haven't played 07 but I'm willing to bet it's better than 06. I'm a stats guy and I like everything to be realistic. I was playing the other night (06) and my goalie played amazing... stopped 30 shots out of 32. They gave him credit for 16 saves out of 18... I mean come on... 14 saves they screwed him out of to drop his save % below .900. That kind of stuff annoys me.

Also, I like the gameplay for the most part, but there are some things that are pretty stupid. My computer guys don't play very positional. Example, on the PK if I'm forechecking, there's always some bozo following me into their zone... and when it's one of my d-men that's even worse. Also, coverage in my own zone is terrible too... sometimes I have 2 d-men going into the same corner after the puck, and the centreman floats at the blueline instead of covering the slot area as he should be.
