In the tweaksdefault.txt file, there's a set of values at the bottom of the file, two of which are called hiddenusergoalieskill and hiddencpugoalieskill.

But neither of these show up in the tweaksdefault.bin file, or at least not with hex editor I'm using?

Any idea how to change these? Goalies are definitely way too weak as it is, and seeing as we all turn down shot acc and shot power, all we get are one-timers rebounds, and the odd deflection.

uhun. these settings works alot better than the defualt ones.
but some problems still remains, my games still end up with 9-8 goals.
and my opponent always has alot more shots on goal.

same as BlackJackal i found my opponent very hard to snatch the puck from..doesnt really matter how hard i hit, they pretty much ignore the hit or i get a penalty. really annoying.

but my main problem is still the high scoring, dammit im an nhln00b, i never play on difficult. but this time i have to. i like 9-8 alot more than 20-5.
man i want games with 3-2.

I've only played one game so far, and I still run into the same problem. Rediculously high number of shots, and goals. The first 2 periods weren't too bad, maybe a few too many shots, but it was still close. In the third though, the goals just get rediculous.

When you said the in-game settings are similar to Mush's, did you mean the ones he mentioned in this thread http://www.nhldepot.net/forums/showthread.php?t=13023? Those are the settings i used, except for the passing settings you mentioned earlier.

Ugh, I need help...BTW, I was playing conservative offence, and protect net defense for most of the game. ...Hard to believe by that shot total though...

Turning down AI pass freq to around 3 (2 or 1 means hardly any passing which is very unrealistic), if you haven't already might help. Big difference between 3 and 4 I found. Less bang bang plays that leave you helpless.
Also keep penalties turned down if you're always getting penalized for everything.

exactly fiddlerpaul.
i have penalties set to 0, because i'm just not able to make a good boxplay, penalty killing always around 30%....

i think you MUST set goalie cover puck to 0, because then they don't always try to "jump" on the puck.

or just try the settings that are in the tweaksdefaults.txt i attached.

but i'm afraid i can't help you guys more than that....

61 shots on goal, that's really terrible...

ah well, increase goalie rebound control with nhlview may help too.

The difference between Medium and Difficult seems to be huge. On Medium, I win the majority of the faceoffs, and usually have double the time on attack and shots on goal. On Difficult, it's the reverse. The sliders don't seem to change this all that much.

But then, this seems to be a problem every year.

As far as goalie cover, I've never had a problem with the goalie jumping to get the puck. In fact, most of the goals scored on me are on bang bang plays right in front of the net, usually on a rebound, and if the goalie dives to cover it, and gets a whistle, that's good. I've never seen the goalie miss when diving and resulting in a goal before.

I've started to get a handle on Difficulty level when I noticed my guys always seemed slower... so I started only using speed burst sparadocially and now I'm feeling pretty good with my game.

My defense is basically to poke check, block passes, and keep a body on 'em.

Just to sort things out:

In 2005 tuning.viv was for dynasty modding, and fmisc.viv for ordinary exhibition gameplay modding. Both contained a tweaksDefault.bin and tweaksDefault.txt. This year fmisc.viv only contains a tweaksDefault.bin (not the .txt), but tweaking it makes a big difference for me (when playing exhibition games). After having imported it, you have to reset default sliders before it works.

I reinstalled those modified files and then set my sliders to default before playing a game. I won 8-4, while being outshot 44-37. The faceoffs and time on attack were fairly similar.

The shots are a little high. I like 20-30. Obviously the goals were too high as well. 4-3 would have been a more appropriate score even for those shot totals.

man this is starting to bore me real bad..doesnt anyone have a real good way to get the scoring stats down?

if i want i can easy score 10+ with a bunch of one on one timers and behind goal turn-arounds. the goalies area leaking real bad, it's really easy to bypass them.

all my sliders are low, well not my gamespeed, because i like fast games.

any good ideas?

Some people are making the argument that the new NHL is going to be high scoring and blah blah. I don't think it's going to change that much. If you look at the preseason games, those are probably high scoring because of all the penalties being called. Once the players ajust to the new enforcement standard, I imagine that will taper off.

I play with my game speed up way higher than you guys. I don't know what it is but Game Speed on 0 just doesn't look right. I've set mine on 4.

Am I the only one that thinks hockey is fast?

EDIT: I really need to sort these settings out. I just beat the Wild 9-6??

I reloaded the tweak files, and used the default settings (except for penalties) and played a game (CGY@MIN). I then used Mush's settings, with the exception of AI pass freq. I set to 3, penalties turned down, and goalie cover zero, and I played a game with those settings (MIN@PHO)

In both games the shot totals were a bit high, but through the first two periods I was doing ok. But in the third, thats when the rediculous goals start coming. I think I had 3 maybe 4 goals scored on me by a defense man taking a shot from the blue line by the boards, and a forward spins around, bats it as it goes by and scores. That and there where a several other wierd deflection goals, and the goalie making rediculous dives.

i don't know what happened to giguere's save statistic in the players of the game screen...

so far ive tried everything when it comes to sliders to get a simulation style game going. But to no avail i ****in cant. Getting really sick of this game, an sick of scoring 10+ goals per game. I play 10min periods, and the final scores are usually 12-10, 11-9, 8-7 at mimimum. Shots are about 45-45 lets say. Dunno but this is getting damn boring, but for some reason i keep going back to play and give it another shot, when all i do is play another scorefest. Getting sick of those 1 timer goals the pc score, especially when u have the guy covered who is about to take the 1 time shot.

mush,, tired and fed up!

**** YOU EA

I've just tried something...

I played the game in simulation style so it looked like a proper broadcast with the game speed up to 3 and everything. However, I added some points to the Goalies in NHL View and it seemed to work well.

I just played the Coyotes with the Ducks on Difficult setting and lost 5-4, a realistic result I think as the Ducks lost 4-3 to the Coyotes in Saturdays preseason matchup.

edit:

Oh my god! I'm an idiot. All this time, and I never saw the tab up in the top left to let me look through all the different sliders. I'm an idiot.
