jslavos templates
During this time of the year, waiting for NHL08, i had nothing to do at home, and wanted to do somthing in PS. So here i am, trying to follow pekka's awsome pad temp tutorial{btw, happy to see you back, pekka}....just to make things clear this is my 1st try at making a hand drawn template.......some lightning, and design on the pads.....the base lines are "inspired" by dralex's, but i drew them again......thoughts?

Its a good beginnig! Continue working on your shading - make it more "pronouned" and clear. Cause right now it looks flat. Are you using pen tool? That little thing will help A LOT!
Overall, like i said its a good start!

it's a REALLY good start actually...it's just one thing, I think it would look better if you lower the opacity of the outlines (the black)...except that, really good bro

Thanks guys !!
Dralex: i used the pen tool only for the "arrow" design. The outlines are made using the line tool, and the shading+lightning using the brush.
Getting back to work on the pad hope it turns out well

The design looks SERIOUSLY messed up.
Take your time, work with the pen tool, that tool is your best friend in any photoshop situation.

Dont know what you mean by "messed up" Karl....the design to me looks pretty much the same(my temp/picture) and if messed up, then a little, not SERIOUSLY, like you said

I based the pads on that picture, but adding Vokouns wordmark layout

You just need to work with the pen tool and make better lines.

Its a good start, but your shading and lighting needs some work. It looks really cloudy and kind of all over. Adding some lighting lines to the folds in the equipment would help as well as making your shading and lighting specifically for each pad roll/section. This would help to make it more crisp and clean looking.
Good effort Its always good to see people trying to make their own stuff.

So, hopefully using the good advice, i redid the shading, lightning, and added some patterns(some i found on the internet, some i made) and since the some V3s have different stitching on the "arrows", i added the normal stitch also(with the ability to switch stitching in the temp)
Here is a preview, with some details that i added, and im happy with it, so i would say that it will be the last version of it...i still need to test it if all the colors look OK, but i thin for a first, its OK on the preview you can see on the left a black/orange version-Dralexs default V3 combination-becouse i wanted to compare my pad with his(and to show lights) and on the right a white version-to show shading....
comments on this final?

The black is looking really good, the white has too much shading and not enough lighting. I'd lower the opacity of the darks and add some lighting.

But if i lower the opacity of the shades, and add lightning, it will ruin the black haha wont it?
but on the side roll there is way too much shading, ill lower that, thanks Joe

very nice
the dark on the pad face is still a tiny bit too much for me on the white pads.

i see what you mean, and i found out that the puck marks were actually making it darker, so i lowered the Opacity a bit, and its OK now. Im off to do the blocker next:P

As you go you'll discover stuff you never knew of then as you incorporate it into your repitoire, you'll get better and better. You can clearly see the jump between your first attempts to now. Imagine what you'll be like once you learn all the available tools you have to play with. These are nicer by the day and the RBK is a very VERY good start...

Very nice, I like the rbk premier 2 the best so far. I still think there is a little too much shading on the front of the pad, the darkness is at a good level but there isnt enough lighting.
